SHOOTING SUSPECT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED….
THE MAN WHO TRIED TO ESCAPE FROM POLICE IN SOUTHERN MONTAGUE COUNTY, AND WHO SHOT AND KILLED A K-9 OFFICER FROM THE WISE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS ALAN LANCE ALVERSON, 45, OF GRANBURY, ACCORDING TO WISE COUNTY SHERIFF DAVID WALKER. AFTER ALVERSON OPENED FIRE ON THE DOG AND OFFICERS, FIVE OFFICERS RETURNED FIRE, KILLING ALVERSON. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AROUND MID-AFTERNOON WEDNESDAY NEAR SUNSET. WALKER SAID HAS AN EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL HISTORY TO INCLUDE A TOTAL OF 23 ARRESTS DATING BACK TO 1990. CHARGES RANGE FROM ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY TO CARRYING A PROHIBITED WEAPON AND POSSESSION CHARGES. ALVERSON WAS BEING SOUGHT ON WARRANTS FOR VIOLATION OF PROBATION IN WISE COUNTY, AS WELL AS FELONY POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE OUT OF TARRANT COUNTY. THE WISE COUNTY K-9 OFFICER, PEPPER, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SAVING THE LIVES OF 5 DEDICATED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND DID EXACTLY WHAT HE HAD BEEN TRAINED TO DO. A MEMORIAL SERVICE IS BEING PLANNED AT THE GRACE FELLOWSHIP CHURCH IN PARADISE FOR PEPPER NEXT WEEK.
